Before tackling the size of the beard itself, first, make sure you are well equipped.
For an optimal result and a perfect cut, it is necessary at least to have at its disposal these few accessories.
- A good pair of scissors: We are talking here about a pair designed to cut hair, not a classic pair of scissors, made to cut paper. It is certainly more expensive, but the cut is more suitable.
- A beard trimmer: When it comes to cutting length or thickness a good part of the beard, is mainly used to save time. It is not essential, it is just faster than scissors. A beard trimmer with some clogs is ideal.
- A comb or cutting guide: It doesn’t only serve to comb the beard when it becomes too wild: it also serves to unravel possible knots while allowing a better impregnation of the beard oil when it is used. For size, it is also used to draw beautiful lines.
- A razor: It does not matter whether it’s a simple disposable razor, a razor with several blades, a razor of safety or even a beautiful razor cut-cabbage, it is simply necessary to define the outlines of the beard, in order to give it sharp edges.
- An additional mirror: Unless you are lucky enough to have a 3-sided mirror at home, having an extra mirror (a small mobile is enough) is useful for getting to see your beard from several angles, including the side. This is what allows us to draw different lines.
5 Easy Steps to Trim Your Beard Properly?
To trim your beard, just go gradually, and in stages. We start first by the sides, then cut the beard in itself, to create a certain harmony.
The first advice is to never cut too much at once: it must begin with small cuts (a few millimeters), wait until the next day, and see at that time if the beard requires another size. It avoids spoiling in a day several weeks of effort.
Step 1: “The line of the legs”
First, we must cut the line of the hairline, the one that forms the outer limit of the beard, the level of the ears, and the neck.
This line that goes down should not go too far back (towards the neck) but should rather follow the bone of the jaw.
To trim your beard, it is sufficient to place your comb on breaded, along with the ear, and cut (with scissors, clipper, or razor) all the hair that is not covered.
A slightly curved comb is also recommended: visually, “a line of legs” too straight would tend to be quite unnatural.
Step 2: The neckline
This is the most difficult line to draw when you prune your beard for the first time, but it becomes easier after it has been drawn.
We must first find out how high to stop the beard: the ideal is not to go too high not to lose volume and balance.
It should rather be placed, at first, at the level of Adam’s apple. Then draw a straight line a few centimeters horizontally that cuts the throat, before creating a curve that joins the line of legs previously traced at the jawbone.

After picking up the beard hair with the comb, the longer hairs, those that protrude, must be cut in a direction from the beard tail to the chin.
And it is once this step that the lengthy length begins: once the beard properly combed and put back in its place, you can cut in length all the hair that exceeds the chin.
It is at this point that you have to create the roundness or the tip, according to the desired style.

To carve it is not just to shorten it: it is modeling it to highlight its strength and its best aspects while removing hair that doesn’t participate in this objective.
