A decade ago, who knew that something as minute as a beard trimmer would become so important in men’s daily lives?
Sometimes, for a neat and presentable look, we normally need to shave our beards. And this is only possible with a beard trimmer.
The difference between people who settle for good beard trimmers and those who go for unscrupulous products lies in research. It never hurts to make a little bit of comparison and research before making your purchase. This will save you the time and hassle of going back and forth between products.

5 Best Beard Trimmers For Men Reviews & Our Top Rated (2020)
Now to the icing of the cake! Consider our list for the top 5 best beard trimmers for men. Show us a better list, and we’ll wait!
1. Wahl-Model 9818 Trimmer for Men
Leading our list is a high quality, powerful, cordless, stainless steel trimmer that comes with patented sharpening blades- the Wahl- Model 9818 Trimmer for Men.
We would be justified to declare this trimmer the best in our list since it comes with almost everything you’d want in a beard trimmer.
It is great on the hands (although it can be a little bit slippery with wet hands), rugged and well balanced, trims perfectly and even looks stylish. Whether you want a neat and precise trim or a clean shave, this trimmer will provide you with an outstanding performance.
The 9818’s center of attraction is its detailed trimmer blade for shaping goatees and beards. Only a few trimmers in the market come with this feature. It gives you more control of your look than other trimmers. Three more stainless steel blades are added on top of this.
There is the standard precision T-Blade for most of the shaving tasks, the ear/nose, and eyebrow trimmer and, finally the detail shaver for outlining.
But what’s the catch?
There is a little downside with the 9818 trimmer that we felt needed more improvement. This was in regards to its guide combs. They aren’t as stiff as they should be, making them prone to breakage. This is especially with the larger models.
To make up for this shortcoming, however, Wahl provided their trimmer with high-quality blades and motor.
In a world of technology like the one live in today, it’s only expected that beard trimmers follow the same suit.
Wahl 9818 Trimmer for Men isn’t left behind. It incorporates the lithium-ion technology that gives it twice as much torque (running time) as its competitors. The trimmer’s battery runs for four hours minimum on a single charge. In addition, you are provided with three extra minutes for trimming.
Finally, this trimmer comes with a five-year warranty.
2. Philips Norelco MG7750/49 Multigroom Series 7000
Our best beard trimmer for men review couldn’t be complete without including a product from Philips – The Philips Norelco Multigroom Series Trimmer to be specific.
Philips is a legendary brand that has been in business for over a century. It is known to deal with a wide range of products over different niches: kitchen, home appliances, personal care, lifestyle, beauty, and electronics, among others.
All their products never disappoint in terms of quality – especially with electronics and home appliances. The same result is also reciprocated with this one here. If you are tight on budget, and still want a great trimmer, no option could be better.
One thing with low budget trimmers is that they aren’t of the best quality (as expected). Their motors are neither the most powerful. This is also true with the Philips Norelco Multigroom. But it is a low budget trimmer, and only bought to get the job done. That’s exactly what it does.
What we love most about this trimmer is that it is versatile.
It comes with three hair trimming guards, three beard trimming guards, a stubble guard, a nose/ear trimmer, and a detailer. This isn’t to mention its self-sharpening steel blades that perform incredibly in trimming your hair.
Also, the trimmer is lightweight and easy to clean and maintain. If you’re about to hit the road for a couple of days and want a temporary trimmer for your journey, add the Philips Norelco Multigroom Series Trimmer to your packing list.
Did we mention that its battery life is five hours?
3. Panasonic Electric Body Groomer and Trimmer ER-GK60-S
Panasonic has been in operating since 1918. Two years ago (2018), they released a series of products to commemorate a century in existence. One of these products was the Panasonic Electric Body Groomer and Trimmer.
For a 1000-year-old company, we don’t expect them to make mistakes in their products. Well, what is in store for you with this trimmer?
For starters, it is waterproof to give you the privilege of shaving while showering. Note that there is a difference between water-resistance and waterproof. Waterproof means that you can fully immerse it in water without it failing. The former implies that it can only survive a few splashes of water.
Panasonic wanted its users to enjoy a fully customized, waterproof product and offered you exactly that.
Secondly, its V-shape allows you to trim hard-to-reach places such as the glutes and groin. Its unique shape is the first thing to notice with it right out of its bat. The trimmer also features three guides, all of which are fully waterproof and washable.
What of its downsides?
One, the trimmer is a little bit pricy. But that is what to expect from a high-quality product courtesy of a reputable brand.
Secondly, the trimmer’s battery life is only 40 minutes. Compared to products like Wahl 9818 Trimmer that come with four-hour battery life, this is a huge dent to this piece. You should always plug it when not in use.
Who is this trimmer for?
No haired man is exempted from enjoying the benefits of the Panasonic Electric Trimmer. However, those who need a little help reaching their beards and body hair will find the trimmer most helpful. Its unique shape is definitely its centerpiece feature. Also, the fact that it is waterproof is a big thumbs-up from us.
4. SUPRENT Beard Trimmer
For a compact trimmer such as this, you tend to wonder how it has a decent battery life – Longer than models like the Panasonic Trimmer.
Well, that’s what happens when the team behind its design and manufacture consists of a “labor of love”. What you’re settling for with the SUPRENT Beard Trimmer is a compact, fair-looking, easy to use, and maintain piece. When you hold it in your hand, nothing should come in between you and your hair.
If you’re the type of guy who loves simplicity, then this is your trimmer. There are no complicated features with this trimmer, just a 0.55 inches (14mm) guard comb that gets the job done perfectly. It comes with a 70 minutes long-life battery that is decent enough to last you a short trip.
We fell in love with the compact and lightweight design of the SUPRENT Beard Trimmer. It makes a perfect EDC tool that can easily fit inside your storage bag.
What’s even better is that it charges using a USB cable. You shouldn’t have any problems charging it frequently wherever you are. For safety, the trimmer features a safety lock that saves the battery’s energy and prevents accidents. Wasn’t this thoughtful from the manufacturers?
Just as there are two sides to a coin, this trimmer isn’t suited for trimming stubble. This is because its length adjustment is between 2mm and 14 mm. You’ll have to look for an alternative to get to 2mm close to your skin.
Also, it isn’t waterproof, and so the luxuries of shaving while showering are omitted with it.
All in all, with its durable plastic handle and stainless steel blade, the SUPRENT Beard Trimmer should get the work done without any issues.
5. Andis 04775 Professional GTX T-Outliner Beard/Hair Trimmer
If you have ever wished to be a barber, turn this dream into reality with the Andis GTX T-Outliner Trimmer.
This is among the professional trimmers that barbers use. With the curved edges of its T-blade, expect precise trimming without bumps, ingrown hair, or irritation. Moreover, the trimmer is made tough to take on any abuse you give it.
No adjustment settings come with this trimmer. Just like a barber, you’ll need to switch the combs to deal with different lengths of your hair. However, its comb will do most of the work perfectly apart from the stubble, which requires a thinner comb.
A huge turn down with this trimmer is that it isn’t cordless, and so cannot operate away from the power source, leave alone in wet conditions.
Also, it operates on a magnetic motor instead of a rotary motor like other quality trimmers. This makes it less powerful but more durable. You have to weigh in the options here; power or longevity?
All in all, this is a great trimmer. However, it might take your time to get used to it being attached to a wall plug. But once you break the ice, everything flows smoothly.
Its motor operates quietly, while its blade is perfectly sharp. Work on trimming your beards better than how a barber would have done it.
How to Trim Your Beard? – 9 Easy Steps
Most men think they know how to trim their beard until you hand them a beard trimmer – And they get lost!
Trimming your beard as a man should be as easy as a pen is to your hand. It is a simple DIY activity that requires a few minutes only. But you’ll be surprised how many men find this process complicated.
Well, there is no harm in not knowing how to go about it. Nevertheless, we can’t be good at everything. That’s why we are here.
We will take you through the process of trimming your beard in an easy and detailed step by step guide.
Step 1: Washing Your Beard
The first step of trimming your beard doesn’t begin with you holding your trimmer. No! You are doing it wrong if you find yourself beginning from here. Instead, it starts with washing your beard. Take a shower and wash your beard thoroughly.
Washing the beard accomplishes several things. For starters, it removes excess oil, dirt, and debris that may have built up over the day or night. Trimming your beard with all this junk in it can cause you problems.
Secondly, it makes the beard stick out straight. This enables the trimmer teeth to get through them seamlessly. Curly beard will cause problems for any trimmer. A straight beard, on the other hand, gets cut efficiently.
Finally, washing your beard becomes important when shaving the neck hair (as you’ll see later in the steps).
Differentiate between having your beard moist and soaking it. Soaking your beard will only present more problems.
Step 2: Shaving The Neckline
If you have hair on the neck down past Adam’s apple, that’s where you will begin. Having a beard on the neck is normal, but can make you look sloppy if you don’t trim it well. That’s why some men prefer their necks shaved cleanly without even a strand of hair remaining.
On the other hand, some men would prefer a slight trim for a neat but masculine look. Whichever category you lie in, precision is key. Set the beard trimmer to its lowest length to eliminate any long hair on the neck.
Shave slowly up to the point where the jaw meets the neck. Don’t go too far; otherwise, you’ll be forced to shave the rest of the neck to the same uniformity position. Shave about an inch long, then take a look at the mirror to see whether you have hit it right. If not, go deeper. However far you decide to go, ensure that you shave uniformly across the entire neck.
If you want to have your neck cleanly shaved, we prefer you to do so after trimming the other beard.
Step 3: Selecting the Preferred Length
Select your starting length. This is done by choosing your preferred guard on the trimmer or by combining the sliders.
If it is your first time shaving, then we recommend going long. This gives you room for errors, and you can always shorten it after. Be slow and precise; we can’t emphasize this more. Once you start shaving, there is no going back.
Step 4: Trimming Your Cheeks
You will begin with trimming on the cheek line. This is the border between your beard and clean skin around the nose and beneath the eyes. Take a moment and think of where you want the cheek line to be before you begin trimming.
There are two ways of trimming a beard on the cheek line. You can either shape it towards the lip or have it all the way to the top of your cheekbone. The choice is yours to make. Cheek hair is known to grow slowly, so take care not to mess it up.
Trim the cheek nice and slowly as you occasionally stop to confirm in the mirror. Do not move to other parts until you are done with the cheeks.
Step 5: Trimming Your Jawline
It’s now time for the jaws!
Run your trimmer against (opposite) the direction that your hair is leaning towards. This helps to ease the process by having the hair trapped between the trimmer’s teeth.
One place to pay more attention to here is the corner hair. Most of the time, this hair manages to escape the trimmer. Don’t let this happen. Use trimming scissors if necessary.
Step 6: Trimming Your Chin and Mouth
Most of the time, the length of the cheek beard is normally similar to that of the chin and mouth. If this is the case with you, there is no need to adjust your trimmer’s length settings. Run the trimmer around your chin and mouth and ensure to get all the corners right. The length should also be uniform.
If you want this beard to be longer than that of the cheek, then simply adjust the trimmer’s length settings appropriately.
Step 7: Now To The Moustache
If you want your mustache trimmed separately from the beard, be keen on this step.
Some men prefer their mustaches longer than the rest of the beard. This should be easy since your beard is already trimmed. However, if you want it trimmed a little more, you will first have to comb it.
Comb it downwards to have a precise length and also notice any overgrown areas that might extend to the mouth. Use your trimmer together with hair scissors to trim it. Be extra careful because anything can go wrong. It’s always wise to have it extra-long so as to set the perfect range.
Step 8: Sideburns
You can proceed on with the sideburns and stubble, although this is just an extra step. Some would rather complete with the mustache or mouth then jump to the neck. Most beard trimmers (compare with our list) normally come with sideburn trimmers as pop-up accessories.
Well, to trim your sideburn, comb it downward so that it meshes with the beard. Now, use the pop-up trimmer to shape it into a perfect blocky or rectangular shape. After this, use your trimmer to trim the sideburn into a clearer shape while shearing away blocky parts and outcroppings.
Step 9: Finally, The Stubble
As for the stubble, trim it only after you are done with longer parts of the beard. Most trimmers have their guards above 2 mm. You’ll, therefore, have to take them out to shave the stubble. You should be able to clean-shave your stubble without any problems.
When all is done, you can now go back to your neck and give it a clean shave. Use a regular razor for this step.
You see, it isn’t as difficult as you thought, right? When broken down into smaller segments, trimming your beard becomes simplified.
